New Year…Action!

Do Something

Hi There! How is your new year shaping up? I hope it has been fantastic! We had a totally boring and uneventful New Year’s…which was awesome! I highly recommend it. We didn’t travel and didn’t do anything too crazy…and it was everything I thought it could be. We did manage to clean out a few closets and make a few trips into the city for date nights. I might have been able to sleep in every morning (thank you darling husband). But most importantly, we spent a lot of time as a family and didn’t kill eachother…I count that as success.

But now its back to the grind and like most of you 2014 is staring at me–a blank slate to be etched upon–and I feel the need to make the most of it. So instead of a long list of the usual resolutions and goals, which I will still make, I chose an overall theme/word to guide me this year:

ACTION…in other words…Do Something!

I find I spend entirely too much time thinking (worrying, analyzing, angsting, panicking, etc.)…too much precious time planning and then if something doesn’t turn out exactly perfect or the way I saw it in my head, then I feel like a failure or get angry, upset, confused, etc. That is silly…just downright silly. I have spent hours agonizing over a design for a quilt instead of just diving in and enjoying the process. I have worried to no end about what snack to bring to my kid’s school for his birthday until I’ve pinned 20 options on pinterest and asked my husband’s opinion 30 times.

The bottom line is that the snacks will be eaten…whether they are cute or not. And the quilt will be loved…even if it isn’t exactly the vision I had in my head. So this year I’m not going to think so much…I’m just going to act. Maybe a little forethought, a little planning, but then I’m just going to go for it…mistakes and all. I’ll plan that quilt but then actually start it without second guessing. I’m going to check projects off my to-do list (maybe starting with the stuff that is over 2 years old…sorry Kelly…its coming). If I gotta bring a snack…I’m going with my first idea and I’m gonna make it work!

I’m also trying to apply this to other areas as well: trash is full–take it out; coming in from the cold–hang that jacket up; pay a bill–file it right away; thinking of someone–send a text, write a note, make a call. JUST ACT…do something!

And eventually, I’ll get to do more things that I really want to/need to do like coloring with the kids and sewing a bit because I wasn’t wasting time worrying about what I should be doing.

So there you have it…my plan for 2014. Hope it is the best one yet for you too!

Cheers!
